Alacrity

Original Typeface | Process Study

My inspiration behind my original typeface Alacrity was my sophomore year news writing professor, Emilie Davis. Prof Emilie is always cheerful and excited to dig into a new story but isn't afraid of being hard hitting when she has to be.

Immediately I knew Alacrity was going to be a serif typeface inspired by the transitional type associated with books and newspapers. But I wanted Alacrity to take on Prof Emilie's always upbeat nature. The thinner strokes mimic Prof Emilie's own stature—tall and thin and always sitting up straight. The full ball terminals are fun and animated in contrast to the otherwise dainty letterforms. And of course the carved out and sturdy serifs are classic and timeless, like newspapers themselves, and gives the typeface a strong foundation.
